Club meeting – Tuesday July 13th

Now that we can gather together we have planned an indoor photo shoot at the club rooms for our July meeting.

We will set up 6 stations for members the chance to experience different activities including smoke wisp photography, droplet photography, shaped bokeh (google that one) and still life. Bring your camera and tripod for these activities.

This is also the night that entries are due for the August print and digital completion. The set subject is “Animal Portraits”.

Members who are familiar with the syllabus may notice that we had planned an AV judging night on Tuesday 13th. This has been canceled due to very low entries.

Annual General Meeting and activity night – Tuesday July 20

We will be holding the club AGM on July 20 at the club rooms. Nominations for the club committee are open. Graeme has distributed the information about the AGM by email.

To spice up the night a little we will show some audio-visuals and also some instructional video to help members prepare for the October competition set subject Converging Lines.

August events

Tuesday August 10 is the Print/Digital judging night, set subject Animal Portraits as noted above.

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on Saturday August 14. This is the club major fundraiser. We usually have big fundraising events on Australia Day and at Easter, but as members know these have been disrupted during the pandemic. So this is the opportunity to bring in some funds that help to keep membership fees low. We will relying on volunteers for the day. We will set up a roster with three, 3 hour slots and will be asking members to sign up to the roster at club meetings. More information to come including an overview of the expectations and guidelines for the sizzle.

Activity night – High Key photography to be held Tuesday 17 August. This night will give members the chance to learn about high key photography. Some of you will remember this was a challenge set on Cluster. The committee have chosen high key photography as the set subject for the November Print/Digitial competition. Noting this is not on the syllabus which originally included an AV judging night.

Still more in August; we will have the club dinner that we missed out on in June (subject to any Covid impact). We have booked the National Hotel at 6.30 on Tuesday August 24 for this social night.

Club weekend away – October

For the weekend of October 15, 16 and 17 we are planning a club getaway to Phillip Island. The committee is working on a loose itinerary including photography and meal outings. Please feel free to make suggestions. Members might think about booking accomodation early given the big demand for regional Victorian tourist attractions. There are a lot of caravan parks, hotel and motel accomodation. One is the NRMA Phillip Island Caravan Park which is Cowes down toward the foreshore. This part of the island may be a good place for members to aim for in terms of accomodation bookings.

Beginners photography course – are you interested?

We are seeking expressions of interest form members about participating in a beginners/novice photography course. This would be a club run, four week course, likely to be run on the 4th Tuesday of the month over four months. The cost would be around $50. This is something we have done in the past and we are canvassing interest for a 2022 course. To express interest please add a comment to this newsletter – see comment box below.

The Neerim Bower Photography competition print sections are open to Australian residents. Categories include Scapes, Birds in Colour and People/Portrait. Entries close on October 31. Please see link below for more details.
